In the past, KW automotive has had height adjustable springs in this product range primarily for SUVs and sports cars. These springs are the perfect suspension upgrade for anybody looking for an adjustable stepless lowering when there aren’t any adjustable coilover suspension kits available for a specific vehicle.
As one of the first suspension manufacturers in the market KW has developed these coil springs for all BMW M850i xDrive. KW already has had the height adjustable springs that were introduced in 2008 with the option of individual lowering in its product range for more than 90 vehicle applications and is expanding this product line further.
The height-adjustable KW springs, also known as coil springs, are also available for the BMW M850i xDrive models in the BMW 8-Series Coupé (G15), BMW 8-Series Convertible (G14) and BMW 8-Series Gran Coupé (G16) versions. The functions of the original damper control are all retained, and the spring rates harmonize with the tuning of the adaptive series dampers.
These springs allow infinitely variable lowering from 5 to 20 millimeters on the front axle and 5 to 15 millimeters on the rear axle of the BMW M8 (F92).
As these three BMW models Coupé, Convertible and Gran Coupé have a different axle design than, for example, the BMW M8, the coil springs differ in spring rate and in the tested adjustment range of the continuously variable lowering. In the BMW M850i xDrive Convertible (G14) the tested adjustment range is 15 – 30 millimeters at the front axle and 10 – 25 millimeters at the rear axle.
The BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupé (G16) can even be lowered continuously by 20 – 35 millimeters at the front and 30 – 45 millimeters at the rear axle thanks to its high center of gravity ex-works with the height-adjustable KW coil springs.
Due to the easy installation of the springs, with their height adjustment and the precisely fitting dust protection elements, the KW coil springs are also ideal for leasing vehicles due to their quick retrofitting. When installing KW coil springs, all damper control systems remain active ex works.
The lowering is adjusted through the vehicle-specific KW threaded sleeves, which are fitted to the standard spring struts during installation, and the rear axle height adjustment.
Besides, the original dust protection elements are also replaced by special KW elastomer suspension elements with dust protection. No further modifications arenecessary on the standard chassis. Also, the exchange of the standard parts against the KW spring set can be carried out in any specialist workshop within a short time. In addition to an attractive visual appearance, the springs ensure a sporty and dynamic driving behavior of the M850i xDrive models.
